Bushlife Safaris is a small safari company with a big reputation for being one of the finest in Zimbabwe! Owner-managed and run by Nick and Desirée Murray, there are 3 different camps on offer – Vundu Camp, Little Vundu, Chitake Mobile Camp and the ever-popular Ruwesi Canoe Trail.
Those who met Nick will attest that he is a man of the bush, through and through. He grew up and went to school in Zimbabwe, studied a BSc Zoology at the University Natal in RSA and then become a professional guide. Nick and Desirée were married in 2002 and ran mobile canoeing safaris together. In 2007, Vundu Camp at Bushlife Safaris was established. Nick clearly remembers his grandfather giving him wildlife magazines to read when he was 3 years old and has always known he would work with conservation and in the wild. He is the lead guide of Bushlife Safaris, and hand-picks his professional guides for their expertise and characters.
Desirée was born in Zimbabwe and with an adventuring outdoor spirit, she knew she didn’t want to work in an office so her first role after school was as an apprentice at Shearwater safaris as a canoe guide. Desirée became Zimbabwe’s second professional female canoe guide in 1993, third professional female guide in 1997 and is still the only lady in Zimbabwe to hold both licenses. In 1997 she was awarded Professional Guide on the Year – the first female to have won this award. She is very hands-on with running all the camps to a high standard and ensuring guests have the experiences they’ve always dreamt about.
